Why Macklemore Partnered With CLEAN Cause As Investor, Creative Director

Macklemore, Grammy winner of “Best Rap Album” (The Heist) and “Best Rap Song” (Thrift Shop) in 2014, has partnered with CLEAN Cause —— an Austin-based sparkling Yerba Maté beverage brand –– as an investor and creative director.

CLEAN Cause donates 50 percent of its net profits (or five percent of net revenues, whichever is greater) to funding sober living scholarships.

According to Macklemore, whose real name is Ben Haggerty, it was the brand’s dedication to help those suffering from a familiar struggle that had him sold within two minutes of CLEAN’s pitch to get him involved.

“It's a new role and with CLEAN Cause I'm just excited about the overall mission. I think that for me anything that I'm passionate about, anything that I understand on a personal level, I'm going to put my all into it,” the rapper told Forbes via Zoom. “The mission at CLEAN Cause is very personal and very near and dear to my heart. It says right on the can, fifty percent of the profits go to people that are struggling with the disease of addiction and helping them get into treatment.”
