Yerba maté is the naturally caffeinated leaf of a native South American plant. Traditionally, yerba maté has been consumed as a tea by people since the 16th century. They would cite its many benefits such as medicinal value, longevity, and vitality. While we can’t vouch that it’ll make you live longer or fix your bum knee, we can 100% say it tastes great and provides a pick-me-up that our fans have said feels great!

What’s the Cause for CLEAN Cause?
Now that you know a little about the CLEAN, let’s tell you about the Cause. CLEAN Cause was founded by CEO Wes Hurt, a father of two boys & a person recovering from addiction. His love of business coupled with the desire to use his experiences and gifts for the greatest good resulted in the birth of CLEAN Cause. Based in Austin, Texas, CLEAN's innovative business model supports recovery from alcohol & drug addiction; with 50% of net profits funding sober living scholarships. Wes started by selling CLEAN Cause bottled water out of his truck to local convenience and grocery stores in Austin, Texas. He also traveled around the country, meeting and talking to customers. Throughout his conversations, one thing seemed to keep coming up: people’s stories of drug and alcohol addiction. Wes knew he knew there was an opportunity to do more. After all, there are nearly 21 million Americans suffering from one kind of addiction or another.
Finding himself fatigued by the grind of growing his new venture, Wes found himself in need of a source of caffeine—but one that was organic, refreshing and sat well on his stomach, unlike coffee. He wanted something… better. I bet you can guess what happened next.
That’s right, CLEAN Cause Sparkling Yerba maté was born. 9 amazing flavors and 50 states later, it turns out Wes wasn't the only one looking for an alternative and organic caffeine source. And what’s even better? CLEAN Cause has helped to support individuals in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction by funding sober living scholarships for individuals in communities across the nation. Like we say, it’s more than just bubbles in a can, it’s a can with a plan.
So What is Sober Living?
Like Wes, anyone who is familiar with addiction and recovery knows the sober living experience is a crucial tool in pursuing recovery. And access to recovery resources can mean life or death for someone stepping into recovery. Our sober living scholarship initiative, coined “CLEAN Kickstart,” is intended to bridge the critical gap between rehab & reintegration. We believe this provides those in early recovery the opportunity to establish a recovery routine & find employment, all in a safe, supportive & structured environment.
And to this day, Wes is living out his mission through CLEAN Cause. We give 50% net profits to funding sober living scholarships. So far, we’re proud to have provided over 2,593 scholarships, which represents more than $1,296,500. And we don’t plan on slowing down any time soon. We’re motivated by the work ahead of us.
How do Scholarships Work?
We grant our Clean Kickstart scholarships locally, meaning the funds are allocated based on a community’s CLEAN Cause sales.
